Chongming Island...崇明岛

after a crazy party of st pat's day last friday, 6 people trooped on to have a long awaited island retreat amidst some hangovers, early next morning....

after long queues for boat tickets, tickets sold out, sleep by the the road for the wait...we finally arrived....triin, sandra, devrim, apoorva, tulika (or what we call ourselves...the whites, the brown, the darkies and the hmmm yellow?), trudging on to an adventure of the village...or so we thought....

we wanted to rough it out to stay in a hut....but like always huts are rare treasures....we got into a modern building sharing two rooms with a nice balcony...

we wanted to see the sea...guess our surprise when we got to a big swampy area with Men and Buffaloes....:) collecting long grasses (or some kind of plant I couldn't translate) which they are using to make paper...

we did see the sea in the end....facing Japan. Also fishermen at work and Tulika tried her hand at fish net making. Being near the waves and water is soo comfortable

silence is golden...maybe too much can be quite uncomfortable as we found out..:) when that happens we did MAHJONG!

- IN singaporean style :)...still can't imagine...one singaporean, 2 indians, 2 estonians, 1 turkish hooked to an ancient chinese game...reinvented the rules alittle BUT had fun with pongs, kangs, chi, hu and happy to finally find mahjong KAKIS!
